Japan’s Amazing World Of Vending Machines!

I love Tokyo’s vending machine culture. They are lined up on streets everywhere you look – full of the best food and drink you can find!

You can buy virtually ANYTHING from a machine in Japan – from simple things like green tea and energy drinks:

“Flying Fish In A Bottle” – Show Me Your “Yakiago”!

Yes, imagine dropping your yen into a vending machine and getting a bottle of “flying fish” sauce in return!

As RocketNews24 reports:

“Dashi soup stock is an indispensable ingredient in Japanese cooking. From miso soup to noodles and even grilled foods, dashi is essential for imparting a distinctive Japanese flavour to many of the country’s well-known dishes.

Known as “Yakiago”, fried flying fish is said to add a unique flavour and fragrance to soup stock, and has been used to make dashi in Kyushu for many years…”

“Recently, the company has been making news around the country after it was announced that Tokyo will now be receiving four of the special Dashidouraku vending machines, with one set to appear in Saitama Prefecture also. Like their southern counterparts, these machines will sell two varieties of dashi stock: their regular variety, which includes kombu kelp and a whole fried flying fish, and a premium variety which adds Sodabushi (dried bullet mackerel) to the mix for even more depth of flavour.”

So there you have it: soup base in a bottle from a vending machine!

But remember:

DON’T EAT THE FISH!

As you can see, there is AN ENTIRE FISH INSIDE THE BOTTLE!

It’s not to eat, however.

It’s in the bottle just to saturate the soup broth with flavor!
